Research Institute of Wetland (RIW), Chinese Academy of Forestry is an independent none juristic person agency mainly focusing on research of basic scientific theory and technical application of wetland. It’s one of the leading wetland research institutes in China that provides scientific knowledge and reference for decision-makers. RIW also supports Chinese government to fulfill its commitment to Convention on Wetlands of International Importance Especially as Waterfowl Habitat, train professional personnel as well as promote wetland research internationalization. RIW endeavors to become one of the first-rated institutes in Asia that contributes knowledge, intelligence and techniques to wetland research in China.

The main research areas and objectives of RIW are: ecological character, evaluation assessment and function mechanism of wetland ecosystem; Material balance, spatiaotemporal dynamic change and their kinetic mechanism of wetland ecosystem; Succession process and environmental effects of wetland ecosystem under the condition of human disturbance and global change; Biodiversity conservation of wetland ecosystem; Rehabilitation and restoration techniques of degraded wetland; Wetland landscape planning and designing.
